Project Overview
The Devil’s Point Staircase at Royal William Yard is a celebrated architectural feature. Blast Clean & Coatings was tasked with restoring and protecting the structure in line with Sherwin-Williams’ protective coating systems. The six-week project involved both in-house and on-site works including surface preparation, coating application, and final touch-ups post-installation.

Objectives
- Restore structural staircase elements to a high architectural standard
- Apply a compliant Sherwin-Williams coating system
- Enhance pedestrian safety with anti-slip features
- Complete work without compromising fragile glazing elements
Our Approach
Work began with a fresh water wash to remove contaminants and salts. GRP nose caps were removed, and surfaces blast cleaned to SA 2.5. Localised repairs were made via spot blasting and application of Macropoxy M922. Two full coats of M922 were applied to all panels, followed by a topcoat in RAL 9002 and 7021. Epidek M377 non-slip coating and anti-slip nose caps were installed. The final stage involved on site touch-ups after installation.

Results
• Robust corrosion protection and long-term performance
• Enhanced safety through non-slip surfaces and nosings
• Striking finish that preserved the staircase’s design integrity
• Delivered on time in coordination with Urban Splash and Ward Williams
